Yes — it's free, takes about two minutes to create, and includes perks most parents never fully use. The most underused one is the 365-day return window on registry gifts, versus Amazon's standard 30 days. The free Welcome Box now requires an active Prime membership, plus 10 unique items and $10+ in registry purchases. The 15% completion discount (around 10% without Prime) applies to Amazon-sold items during a window around your due date — effectively a discount on gear you were going to buy anyway.

An Amazon Baby Registry is a free wishlist for expecting parents. You add the baby products you need, share a link with family and friends, and they can buy items for you from anywhere in the US — without ever seeing your home address.
The program helps new parents organize baby products, share gift ideas, keep their shipping address private, and use registry benefits such as a welcome gift, a completion discount, gift returns and group gifting when eligible.
Beyond the wishlist, Amazon offers perks to US registrants — including a Welcome Box and a completion discount. These perks have eligibility requirements that can change, so we verify them and link to Amazon's current terms.

Here's how each perk works, including the conditions most sites leave out.
Welcome Box
A surprise box of sample and full-size items for parents and baby, valued up to $35. Requires an active Prime membership, 10 unique items on your registry, and $10+ in purchases from it.
As of August 2026, Prime is required for this perk — the registry itself stays free without it.
Completion discount
15% for Prime members, around 10% without Prime, on remaining eligible registry items during a window that opens 60 days before your due date and runs through 90 days after. Applies to up to $2,000 in orders, for a maximum discount of $300.
Registry must be active 14+ days first. Amazon-sold items only.
365-day gift returns
Registry gifts get a full year to return, against Amazon's standard 30 days. The most underrated benefit when guests send duplicates.
Applies to items shipped to your registry address.
Group gifting
Friends can pool money toward one big-ticket item such as a car seat or stroller. Amazon manages the contributions and tells you when the item is funded.
Available on eligible items marked as group gift.
Address privacy
Your shipping address is never shown to guests — Amazon ships directly to you. Set your registry to public, private, or link-only.
Universal Registry
Add items from any website — Target, Buy Buy Baby, Pottery Barn Kids — using the Amazon app. They sit alongside your Amazon picks in one shareable list.
Non-Amazon items don't qualify for the discount or the Welcome Box.
Step by step
Set up your registry — the right way
Six steps, in order. Each one has the detail most guides skip.
Create your registry (about 2 minutes)
Go to Amazon.com → "Accounts & Lists" → "Create a Baby Registry." Enter your due date, the baby's first name (optional) and shipping address. Your registry goes live immediately.
Add 40–50 items across price ranges
Add items under $20 (onesies, pacifiers), mid-range items between $50 and $150 (feeding gear), and big-ticket items (car seat, crib). Diverse price points give guests a choice at every budget.
Add items from other stores (Universal Registry)
Install the Amazon Assistant browser extension or use the Amazon app browser. Open any website and click "Add to Registry." Those items appear on your Amazon registry page.
Claim the Welcome Box — it doesn't ship on its own
You need an active Prime membership, 10 unique items on your registry, and $10+ in purchases from it (by you or by guests). Check the "Benefits" or "Perks" tab in your dashboard to confirm where you stand.
Share your link before the baby shower
From your dashboard, click "Share" to get a direct URL. Send it 4–6 weeks before the shower so guests can order with standard shipping. Your address stays private — Amazon handles delivery.
Use the completion discount around your due date
The window — 60 days before your due date through 90 days after — lets you buy remaining registry items at 15% off with Prime, or around 10% off without, up to a $300 maximum. It's a discount on your own baby gear.

Common pitfalls
5 mistakes to avoid with your Amazon Baby Registry
Adding too many newborn-size items
Babies outgrow newborn clothes and diapers in 4–6 weeks. Add 1–2 packs of newborn diapers and a handful of NB onesies, then stock size 1 and 0–3M. See how many newborn diapers per day.
Waiting too long to create it
The completion discount window often opens 60 days before your due date. Creating a registry at 36 weeks leaves you almost no runway. Create it between weeks 14 and 20.
Forgetting to claim the Welcome Box
It doesn't ship automatically. You activate it by meeting the conditions and following the steps in the "Benefits" tab of your dashboard.
Not using the 365-day return window
You have a full year to return duplicates bought through your registry. Track what arrives, consolidate, and return the extras before the window closes.
Adding only expensive items
If your registry is a $700 stroller and little else, most guests won't find anything in their budget. Include items under $15, items from $15 to $50, and the big pieces. More options means more gifts — and less left for you to buy with the completion discount.
